Norman Powell from Sustainable Communities co-ordinated The Lambeth Community Hubs Network from 2013 to 2020. The programme was funded by Lambeth Council and has previously been funded by Locality and the Department of Housing Communities and Local Government. The work has involved training and capacity building of a group of up to 20 local medium sized charities who all manage community buildings and several of whom who were involved in community asset transfers. As well as securing several asset transfers, the programme achievements have included developing plans and raising significant grant and loan income to refurbish or redevelop buildings, contributing to the Borough Plan by bringing in new revenue streams to the Borough ( in the year to March 2019 the 12 hubs then involved in the programme raised revenue of over £3.3M), working together to influence local authority and local health policy for the community and voluntary sector and pooling resources for the greater effectiveness of local services and to help reduce child and adult poverty and to promote inclusion. Hubs are recurrently supporting local communities across Lambeth to deal with the present C-19 Pandemic.
