Help and Support for LGBTQ+ People Experiencing Domestic Abuse in 10 London Boroughs

page1image56779504

In June 2023 Sustainable Communities was commissioned by the social enterprise RISE to undertake scoping research into the support available for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and more (LGBTQ+) persons where domestic abuse features in their personal relationships.

Our research supports RISE in delivering their free programme called Respectful Partnerships, a programme of expert help and support for LGBTQ+ victims and perpetrators whose relationships are affected by domestic abuse. Respectful Partnerships is available for those who are LGBTQ+ living in the London boroughs of Barnet, Enfield, Harrow, Brent, Newham, Haringey, Tower Hamlets, Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster.

Please see: https://risemutual.org/respectful-partnerships-programme

Researchers at Sustainable Communities mapped out the routes for LGBTQ+ people seeking help in domestic abuse situations across London. We found that situations of domestic abuse in LGBTQ+ relationships are often under-reported and more support is needed for those seeking help.

Building on RISE’s long established ways of working with abuse, the Respectful Partnerships programme works sensitively with either couples or separately with individuals affected by this largely hidden and rarely discussed issue. RISE is here to help couples and individuals stop abuse and build loving and respectful relationships.

Please Reduce, Reuse, Recycle your Plastic.

Greenpeace’s May 2022 survey, the Big Plastic Count, shows thats 100 billion pieces of plastic are thrown away each year and only 12% of plastic waste is recycled within the UK (much is sent overseas). A lot of this is single use plastic, made from fossil fuels and used when we buy fruit and vegetables, ready meals or other pre packed foods.

Please watch the video and reduce, reuse and recycle more plastic

Join The Big Plastic Count 16-22 May https://thebigplasticcount.com

UK households are amongst the biggest users of single use plastics but we need more evidence of this to support government targets for reducing plastic waste. Please help involve households, community groups, schools and youth clubs to gather evidence of how much plastic waste leaves UK households, help set a target to reduce single-use plastic by 50% by 2025 and ban UK plastic waste being exported to other countries.
